Then and Now Grand County, Photography and Art Project

The Heritage Coalition of Grand County and Grand Creatives invite everyone to participate in our upcoming countywide exhibits and programs, Then and Now Grand County, opening in  the summer 2015. The project is open to everyone, youth to seniors, first timers to professionals, in all media.

For the  Then and Now  project, members of The Heritage Coalition and Grand Creatives will make available many wonderful historic photographs from the county (from Grand Lake, Fraser,  Granby, Winter Park, Parshall, Kremmling to Hot Sulphur Springs) — or use your own, old family photos. The subjects can be buildings, landscapes or people (think  the first rangers in Rocky Mountain National Park 100 years ago, or early cowboys, lumberjacks, or waitresses! ) Use your imagination!

We hope photographers, painters, artists, quilters and more will be inspired to create a NOW image that contrasts with a historic, THEN photograph. The Heritage  Coalition will help with photo selections, set-up, framing, and offer fun, free workshops. 

To kick-off the project please join us this Friday, February 20 at 6 pm for a Then and Now History Chat  with photographer Mark Afman.  The talk takes place at the Historic Fraser Church on Eisenhower Avenue, in old town Fraser across the railroad tracks.  Come get inspired!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time to see what something, that you can look at today, may have looked like 80, 90, 100+ years ago?  Well here is your chance. Grand County Historical Association (GCHA) is hosting a presentation showing a series of Then and Now Photographs of Grand County. Mark Afman will show photos from Berthoud pass to Hot Sulphur Springs, from Fraser to Grand Lake and fade from Then to Now. Is there much difference? Come see  for yourself. 

Mark has matched up over 700 historical photos with their modern day equivalent from all over the state of Colorado. Mark is a 3rd generation native of Colorado  whose family has owned a cabin outside of Grand Lake for over 40 years. He loves the history of Colorado and especially Grand County. Many of Mark’s historic  photos are from the Denver Public Library and GCHA archives.  Mark has a keen artistic ability and technical skills to juxtapose the Then and Now images from the  High Country.  To see more, check out Mark’s  Then and Now Images of Colorado and the West  Facebook page, with OVER 17,000 fans!
